This Privacy Policy explains how Dream it Down ("the App", "we", "us") handles your information. The App is provided by Paolo Totaro, an individual developer based in Italy, who acts as the data controller for the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In short: Your dreams are stored on your own device. When you use an AI feature, the text of that dream is sent to our processing service and on to our AI provider to generate a response, and is not stored on our servers. We do not sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps.
1. Information We Process
We keep the data we handle to a minimum. Depending on how you use the App, this may include:
Your dream entries. The text you write (or dictate), along with associated details such as mood tags, word counts, and any matched dream-dictionary symbols. These are stored locally on your device in the App's on-device database.
Dream text sent for AI processing. When you choose to use the "Polish" or "Interpret" features, the relevant dream text is transmitted to our processing service and forwarded to our third-party AI provider to generate a response. See Section 3.
Subscription information. Purchase and subscription status is handled through Apple's App Store and our subscription management provider (RevenueCat). This includes an anonymous app user identifier and your entitlement status. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
Voice input. If you use dictation, your device's speech-recognition converts your speech to text. The resulting text is then treated like any other dream text you enter.
Technical logs. Our processing service records limited operational data such as an anonymous user identifier and request timestamps, used for security, rate-limiting, and abuse prevention. These logs do not contain the text of your dreams.
Usage records. To apply the monthly AI allowance, our processing service keeps, linked to the anonymous app user identifier: how many AI dreams you have used in the current period, and for each dream sent to an AI feature a random dream identifier and whether it was polished or interpreted. It also keeps your subscription status and renewal date, received from our subscription provider, which set the day your allowance resets. These records do not contain the text of your dreams.
2. What We Do Not Collect
We do not require you to create an account or provide your name, email, or phone number to use the App.
We do not store the text of your dreams on our servers.
We do not sell your personal data.
We do not display third-party advertising or use advertising trackers.
3. Third-Party AI Processing
The App's AI features are powered by Anthropic, which operates the Claude AI models. When you use an AI feature, the relevant dream text (together with limited dream-dictionary context) is sent to Anthropic's API solely to generate your polished text or interpretation, and the result is returned to your device.
Under Anthropic's standard API terms, inputs and outputs sent through the API are automatically deleted within 30 days of receipt, except where they must be retained longer to comply with legal obligations or to enforce Anthropic's usage policies. Anthropic does not use data submitted through its API to train its models under these standard terms. 4. Why We Process Your Data (Legal Bases)
Under the GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases:
Performance of a contract: to provide the App's core features that you request, including AI polishing and interpretation.
Legitimate interests: to keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and enforce usage limits.
Consent: where you actively choose to send a dream for AI processing or enable microphone dictation. You can withdraw consent at any time by not using those features and, on your device, by revoking microphone permission in Settings.
5. Data Retention
On your device: your dream entries remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the App.
AI processing: dream text sent for AI processing is retained by our AI provider only for the limited period described in Section 3, and is not stored on our own servers.
Operational logs: anonymous technical logs are retained only as long as needed for security and abuse prevention.
Usage records: AI usage counts and per-dream records are deleted automatically after about 45 days. Your subscription status and renewal date are kept while you use the App and are replaced whenever your subscription changes; you can ask us to delete them at any time.
6. Your Rights
Because your dreams are stored on your device and we do not hold an account-linked copy of them, you are in direct control of that content: you can view, edit, or delete any entry, or remove all of it by uninstalling the App.
Under the GDPR you also have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of personal data we hold, and the right to data portability, as applicable. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali).
7. Children
The App is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age required to form a binding agreement in their country (and in any case not under 13). We do not knowingly process data from children.
8. Data Transfers
Our service providers, including our AI provider and subscription provider, may process data on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, such transfers are governed by appropriate safeguards under applicable data-protection law.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes may also be communicated within the App.
